(Kauai, HI) -- Several teachers on Kauai are demanding changes to the new teacher evaluation system. The "Garden Island" reports four public school teachers have sent a protest letter to the state Department of Education, calling the new evaluations a "disaster." Under the new system, teachers are evaluated twice a year, taking hours at a time. The teachers say the new system is time-consuming, involves them having to turn in too much paperwork, and takes valuable time away from actually teaching students. A DOE official says she's not surprised that some people don't like the change but the state is comfortable with the new evaluation system.
