McCain Calls Execution Of Arizona Inmate 'Torture'
(Washington, DC) -- Arizona Senator John McCain says the two-hour execution of an inmate in his state was nothing short of "torture." The Republican lawmaker told "Politico" he supports the death penalty, but called the way the execution of Joseph Wood was carried out unacceptable. McCain said the lethal injection needs to be a lethal injection and not the, quote "bollocks-upped situation" that took place. Joseph Wood was injected with a combination of lethal drugs at the Arizona State Prison Complex on Wednesday. Witnesses and Wood's lawyers said he was gasping for breath and snorting for more than an hour before he died.
McCain experienced years of torture while he was a prisoner of war by the North Vietnamese during the Vietnam War.
