(Honolulu, HI) -- Honolulu police are explaining why one of their officers gunned down a driver following an accident in Waikiki this week. Authorities say the six-year police veteran fatally shot the Manoa driver several times because the officer feared for his life when the man tried to drive away from an accident Wednesday. There were questions about whether the gunfire could have hurt passersby along Kuhio Avenue. Police brass say officers have to make split-second decisions when they feel their lives are being threatened. An investigation into the deadly incident is ongoing.
