U.S. stock indexes closed moderately lower on Monday, weighed down by energy stocks as the slide in oil prices continued. The market was coming off its best day in two months.
The Dow Jones industrial average fell 85.94 points, or 0.5 percent, to close at 18,105.17.
The Standard & Poor's 500 index lost 10.77 points, or 0.5 percent, to 2,105.33.
The Nasdaq shed 9.98 points, or 0.2 percent, to 4,993.57.
For the year:
The Dow is up 282.10 points, or 1.6 percent.
The S&P 500 index is up 46.43 points, or 2.3 percent.
The Nasdaq is up 257.52 points, or 5.4 percent.
