(Maui, HI) -- A high school athlete star apparently died after his car plunged 300 feet down a cliff. "Hawaii News Now" reports Hana High School senior Isaiah Pu-Akima was killed in yesterday's deadly crash. He played on the school's football and volleyball teams. His classmates are devastated. The high school football team is playing its last game of the season tonight, which is Senior Night, and they will be without Pu-Akima. Maui Police, which has not identified the victims, says a 17-year-old boy from Hana was behind the wheel of a 1998 Toyota Rav-4 pulling a trailer on Hana Highway near Lower Keanae Road. Investigators say the vehicle veered to the right, hit a guardrail and then fell 300 feet down the cliff. The vehicle landed on lava rocks and burst into flames. The driver died at the scene. An 18-year-old passenger, also from Hana, was thrown from the vehicle and survived with only minor injuries. Neither teen was wearing a seat belt. This is Maui County's tenth fatality this year, compared to four at the same time last year.
