Hawaii Residents Who Double Paid Taxes Getting Refunds

(Honolulu, HI) -- Hawaii residents who mistakenly were charged double on recent tax bills will soon be getting refund checks. The "Star Advertiser" says the state Tax Department has begun notifying those who mistakenly were charged twice that they will be getting refund checks in the mail and don't have to do anything further. Officials say there was some confusion because some residents received new tax notices after they had already sent in checks for the tax bills close to the April 20th deadline. It's unclear how many people were ultimately double-billed. Tax officials say the refunds should arrive in about two to three weeks.
