(Big Island, HI) -- Hawaii Island Police are warning residents about an IRS scam. A Pepeekeo woman told officers that she received a voicemail from someone posing as an investigator from the IRS. Authorities say when she returned the call, she was told that she owed back taxes. If she did not pay, the suspect threatened to arrest her. Police say the scam is meant to obtain personal and financial information or to persuade the recipient to wire money to the scammers.
