(Honolulu, HI) -- Hawaii Gas is being slapped with a stiff fine by the feds over issues at its Kapolei facility. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has fined Hawaii Gas 155-thousand dollars for violations regarding chemical releases at the facility. The facility was also found to be in violation of several regulations in regards to risk management plans. Inspectors found workers at the facility had released over 35-hundred pounds of sodium hydroxide, and failed to report it to federal regulators. EPA officials say the release fortunately had no major health or environmental impacts.
