Hanabusa Asks Court To Delay Friday Election

(Hilo, HI) -- Hawaii Congresswoman Colleen Hanabusa wants a state court to bring Friday's planned election in two Puna precincts to a halt. Hanabusa is seeking a temporary restraining order in Hilo to postpone the election until those residents have had enough time to recover from Tropical Storm Iselle. Her legal claim says with limited electric and phone service, its unclear if everyone who would be able to vote would actually make it to the polls. Hanabusa trails U.S. Senator Brian Schatz by over 16-hundred votes after last Saturday's election. The two are facing each other in the Democratic primary for Schatz's seat, with the winner expected to sail to victory in November.
