(Washington, DC) -- Congressional Democrats continue pushing hard for an extension of unemployment benefits. In a Capitol event, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi said jobless aid is "spent immediately" and pumps money back into the economy.
Benefits for one-point-three million Americans expired on December 28th. The Senate is continuing work this week on extending the jobless benefits. House Republican leaders will wait for the Senate to act before considering how to proceed. In earlier remarks, GOP House Speaker John Boehner repeated a demand for offsetting spending cuts to make up for the more than six billion dollar cost of the three month extension.
