(Mauna Loa, HI) -- An elderly man is dead after succumbing to his injuries nearly a month after a car crash on Molokai. The accident took place on the morning of May 8th in Mauna Loa. Police say an 86-year-old woman was driving a Toyota Tacoma pickup truck when it veered left of center and hit a guardrail on the north side of the roadway. The truck then crossed the center line and continued in a southeasterly direction to the south shoulder of the roadway, went up an embankment and flipped. The 86-year-old male passenger, Harry Shimizu, was rushed to a hospital with life-threatening injuries. He died from those injuries on June 4th. This is the 14th traffic fatality for Maui County this year.
