2 WKU students scammed via email

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (AP) — A pair of Western Kentucky University students told police that they lost a total of $2,700 after replying to emails offering work at home opportunities.

Officer Ronnie Ward told The Daily News (http://bit.ly/1nKzJUS ) the pair could have lost $6,000 if they'd followed through with the instructions.

Ward says the scammers told a student he would mail checks for the student to cash and send a portion of the money to an address in Florida. Ward says the student was told he could keep the remaining cash, but the checks were bad. The student has to repay to his bank

Another student was told how to print checks from a mobile site and cash them. Those checks were also bad checks.

Ward says scammers are targeting people with wku.edu email accounts.
